The Cavalier Club
BY STANLEY GOLDYN
"Europe’s bloody Thirty Years’ War forms the backdrop for Stanley Goldyn’s intelligent and marvelously entertaining adventure story The Cavalier Club.
In 1618, Lieutenant Jack Channing has witnessed an attempt to assassinate the Polish King Sigismund, which appears to be only one incident in a concerted attack on the Catholic rulers of Europe. Channing is given the task of investigating these murders and thwarting whatever power might lie behind them. His efforts are complicated by the fact that he’s recently fallen in love with a countess who herself might be more intimately connected with affairs than she seems.
Goldyn handles the combination of Channing’s detective work and his derring-do with a great deal of skill and dramatic tension, and his characters brim with life. This is a first-rate historical adventure story that will leave readers wanting much more from this author."
